Legends of modern dance

The Annenberg Center's Dance Celebration/Next Move Festival series kicks off its 16th season on Nov. 12 with performances by the Paul Taylor Dance Company, including the Philadelphia premiere of "Piazzola Caldera" (photo), a fusion of modern dance and tango that The New York Times said "delivers the essence of the tango without imitating it."

For 43 years, the Paul Taylor Dance Company has thrilled audiences around the world with the innovative modern works of its founder and namesake. The troupe has won numerous honors for its work, including an Emmy Award for its 1991 PBS production, "Speaking in Tongues," and the Ambassador's Award for Distinguished Service for representing the United States in a month-long celebration of India's 50th anniversary of independence.

Taylor's choreography has been widely praised for its stylishness and energy. Tonight through Saturday, you'll have a chance to see it live here at Penn.
