Wrap up a splendid season on campus

Even though there are only 13 days left to finish your Christmas shopping—and only a week to get Hanukkah under wraps—there’s still lots of time to take advantage of holiday shopping specials around the Penn campus.

Start with University Square, many of whose merchants will be offering special promotions from Dec. 15 through Dec. 31. Whether it’s food, books, clothing or that special something for someone special, you’re sure to find it at one of the University Square merchants from 34th to 40th streets along Walnut and Sansom and 40th street from Chestnut to Spruce.

The Penn Bookstore’s annual Holiday Sale takes place on Thursday, Dec. 18. Your PennCard gets you 10 percent off all your purchases that day, and there will be samplings of foods from around the world throughout the evening at the Bookstore, 3601 Walnut St.

The shops at the University of Pennsylvania Museum, 3260 South St., are a great place to find unusual merchandise from world cultures ancient and modern. Puppets from Burma and Indonesia, sculpture and masks from Africa, nativity scenes from around the world and Huichol Indian yarn paintings are just a few of the unique items you will find this season at the Museum Shop, Second Site and Pyramid Shop for children.

For those looking for arts and crafts from closer to home, check out the flea market at the Rotunda, 4014 Walnut St., on Dec. 14 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. The event will feature local artists and craftsmen selling their creations as well as the traditional potpourri of old and new that characterizes flea markets. The event supports the Foundation’s program of bringing original, community-based art and performance to the Penn campus.
