Wireless users who want to bask in the crisp autumn air while catching up on email correspondence have more places to do it than ever before. Wireless service is now available throughout the majority of the central campus, including most of Van Pelt-Dietrich Library, the Engineering complex, and all of College Green and Houston Hall.

Two of the more recent areas to accommodate wireless service are Kelly Writers House and College Green. (Check the map at www.upenn.edu/computing/wirelesss/ for all coverage areas.) And new this fall, users can keep track of wireless-friendly locations by looking for the symbol on the signs outside each location.

According to Networking and Communications Project Leader Reni Roberts, to take advantage of wireless service, people only need a PennKey and the proper technology—a laptop computer or handheld device that is equipped with a wireless card.

She adds that wireless, which operates on a shared bandwidth, is best for smaller tasks. “It’s more of a convenience to check your email rather than for heavy-duty research,” says Roberts.
