Gutmann joins forces with FBI

Young people can learn what it’s like to play on a college sports team through the Penn Pals program.
Open to all faculty and staff children, ages 7 to 13, this program gives them the chance to correspond with a Women’s Basketball player throughout the season, as well as attend games and special events. Participants get free admission to any women’s home game, a women’s basketball yearbook as well as a pizza party with the team. To sign your kids up, just fill out the registration form at www.pennathletics.com. Click on “Basketball” under “Women’s Sports,” and then “Penn Pals.” The membership fee is $15.

Next summer, Student Performing Arts at Penn will have a new, permanent home in the lower level of Stouffer College House, with nearly 13,000 square feet of office, rehearsal and performance space. Construction of the new space—the Platt Student Performing Arts House—is being made possible by a major gift from Marc E. Platt C’79 and his wife, Julie Beren Platt C’79. Marc Platt, formerly an executive at Orion, TriStar and Universal Pictures, now has his own company, which has produced hits like “Legally Blonde” and Broadway’s “Wicked.” He says the gift is a tribute to the role Penn played in honing his own theatrical and musical skills. “Penn’s theatre and music programs had a profound impact on our lives,” he said, “not only in what we learned, but also in the fun we had and the friendships we made.”

Auction for Parent-Infant Center

Help support the Parent-Infant Center with ArtStart2005, a fall fundraiser and silent auction on Oct. 20 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Patrons can enjoy appetizers, wine, desserts and hot cider while they bid on ice skating or yoga lessons, theater tickets, gift certificates and more. All proceeds benefit scholarships and arts programming at the Parent-Infant Center. Tickets are $25 per individual and $40 for a couple and are available at the door or by contacting the Center at 215-898-4180.
