Save the date

Integrating knowledge is one of the key goals of President Gutmann’s Penn Compact, and in a Nov. 4 symposium faculty from across the University will come together to talk about being young and growing old in contemporary America and around the world. Organized by the Faculty Senate and timed to coincide with Homecoming Weekend, “Youth and Aging: Penn Integrates Knowledge Locally and Globally” promises an afternoon of lively discussion, according to Senate Chair and Gerontology Professor Neville Strumpf. “It definitely won’t just be a bunch of talking heads spouting off what their latest research grant was,” says Strumpf, who is looking forward to hearing a wide range of perspectives, from Art History Professor Christine Poggi talking about late life artists to Pathology Professor John Trojnowski sharing some of the latest research on Alzheimer’s disease. The symposium takes place in the Annenberg Center’s Harold Prince Theater from 1:30 to 6 p.m. Registration is not necessary.

Hometime

Just in time for those soaring fuel bills we’ve all been hearing about, Penn’s Office of Community Housing is offering a workshop on home maintenance with tips on insulating your home for the winter. Other workshops in this series cover money management, Penn’s Guaranteed Mortgage Program, buying and rehabbing investment properties and how to repair damaged credit.
