WHO SHE IS: Public Access Clerk, Van Pelt Library

YEARS AT PENN: 7

WHAT SHE DOES: In the morning, Barnes works in the fourth floor stacks, where she reshelves books, finds journals and helps patrons in the psychology, education, statistics and womenís studies sections. In the afternoon, Barnes moves downstairs, where she receives interlibrary loan books requested by faculty, staff and students. It's different every day, says Barnes, There are quiet spots, but itís also very vibrant here.

WHAT SHE'S SEEN IN THE STACKS: Besides a rotten egg that lay hidden from the staff (stumping them for weeks), Barnes says she seen students brush their teeth while frantically studying in the library for exams.
