I misplaced my PennCard and need to get a new one. How do I get a new card? Does Penn issue new cards for free or will it cost me money to have it replaced?

Dear Clumsy Card-Carrier,
You can get a new PennCard very easily—but it will cost a small fee. The PennCard Center, located on the first floor of the Franklin Building at 34th and Walnut streets, charges $15 for a replacement card. The office will waive the fee if your card was stolen and you present them with a copy of the police report.

Since the red and blue card lets you gain access to campus buildings and museums, take out books and movies from the library and use Penn’s transit services for free, it’s important to get a new one as soon as possible. The first step is to make sure you cancel you old card—especially if you have a bank account linked to your card. Call the PennCard Center (215-417-CARD) or report it as stolen to the Penn Police (215-573-3333). Drop by the PennCard Center during normal business hours to get a new one issued.

If you find your old card before you get your new one, call the PennCard Center to have it reactivated. The old card cannot be reactivated if you stumble across it after you get a new card. Just keep that old one for posterity. And if you need a new PennCard because you’ve changed your name, you can obtain one without a fee.
