New Facilities VP
Anne Papageorge, a licensed landscape architect, has been named vice president for the Division of Facilities and Real Estate Services, effective Oct. 16. She replaces Omar Blaik, who left Penn in late March to start a community and urban development venture focusing on universities. As vice president, Papageorge will be responsible for managing the operations and maintenance of the University's buildings and grounds, as well as the planning and project management of new construction and renovations of existing properties. Recently, she has been senior vice president for the Lower Manhattan Development Corp., managing the planning, design and construction of the nearly $1 billion project encompassing the World Trade Center Memorial, memorial museum and related facilities. She has also worked in design and construction for the City of New York, where she served as first deputy commissioner of the Department of Design and Construction.

Mi Casa es su Casa
For the second time, Penn will host the Latino Ivy League Conference, to be held Nov. 10-12 at Houston Hall. The conference, sponsored by the Latino Coalition and La Casa Latina, provides networking and leadership opportunities for attending students from the eight Ivy league schools. This year's conference topics include: identifying critical issues affecting Latino communities, comparing resources across the Ivy League, developing a plan of action, getting people to be active at their schools, building a strong Latino network and creating a web site for students that will link them to academic, financial and cultural opportunities.

NanoDay
Oct. 25 is NanoDay. This is your once-a-year opportunity to explore the Nano/Bio Interface Center, see exhibits and demonstrations, and take lab tours. It all happens on the first floor of the Towne Building and Levine Hall from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Come back at 4 p.m. to see Stanford's Steven Block presented with the NBIC Award for Research Excellence in the Wu and Chen Auditorium in Levine Hall.
