Great deals

Clean streets
West Philly neighbors and community groups are invited to lend a hand in a neighborhood leaf cleanup on Dec. 9. University City District will donate leaf bags and work gloves and haul away the collected leaves. The leaves are given to Fairmount Park, which uses the waste for leaf mulch. Last year, UCD removed more than 5,500 bags of leaves. For more information, or to sign up for the cleanup, contact John Fenton at john@ucityphila.org or 215-243-0555.

Gear up for winter
It may not be snowing yet—but there's a good chance that it will before winter is out. Plan ahead, and sign up for Snow Day Child Care. The program offers care for children when local schools are closed, and is available for children of Penn faculty and staff (12 weeks to 12 years). Snow Day Child Care is open weekdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Penn Children's Center at the Left Bank Commons, 3160 Chestnut St. Pre-enrollment is required. For more information, including enrollment instructions, contact Suzanne Smith at 215-898-5116 or go to: www.hr.upenn.edu/quality /worklife/snowday.asp.
