Hay's Anatomy

Take an autumn nature walk and say hello to a few stuffed shirts at Morris Arboretum's Second Annual Scarecrow Walk, from October 3 to 18. This family-friendly affair features 30 entries in the Arboretum’s scarecrow design contest and coincides with the ever-popular Fall Festival, which takes place on Sunday, October 4, from 11 am to 3 pm.

Last year, participants in the scarecrow design contest entered effigies of spooky pirates, fanciful princesses and toothy dinosaurs. Each shaggy sculpture on display is built of hay, burlap and twine. Visitors are encouraged to vote for their favorite, in the real straw poll.

Morris Arboretum, located at 100 E. Northwestern Ave. in Chestnut Hill, offers 92-acres of horticulture displays, including a spectacular collection of mature trees in a Victorian landscape and other must-sees, including a formal rose garden, Japanese gardens, a swan pond, a fernery and the Out on a Limb canopy walk. For hours, admission rates and more information and call 215-247-577, or go to www.morrisarboretum.org.
