Politics up close

As part of a special class offered only once every four years, a group of Penn students attended the National Republican and Democratic Conventions in August and earlier this month, and wrote news items about the gatherings for the Philadelphia Daily News.

The course, called Comm 428: “Conventions, Debates, and Campaigns,” is offered by the Annenberg School for Communication and the Fels Institute of Government during presidential election years, providing students the opportunity to get an up-close look at how political parties craft their messages during the two major party conventions. This was the fourth time Penn students have attended the political events.
