Penn Law has named its newly renovated lecture hall and adjoining seminar room in honor of Harold Cramer L’51 and his wife, Geraldine, who have established a multimillion-dollar bequest intention to support the renovation of Silverman Hall and future projects.

The lecture hall is a 45-seat teaching space located on the second floor of the Silverman building, the renovation of which will complete a top-to-bottom overhaul and expansion of the Law School. Dean Michael A. Fitts formally announced the Cramer Hall naming in November.

Cramer is a past president of the Law School’s alumni society and is the co-founder of the Roberts Lecture, which celebrated its 50th anniversary last year. As a student, he was editor of the Law Review and a member of the Order of the Coif.

A retired partner at Schnader Harrison Segal & Lewis, Cramer was a managing partner of Mesirov Gelman Jaffe Cramer & Jamieson, where he practiced law as a partner from 1967 until assuming the full-time position of chairman and CEO of Graduate Health System, Inc. in 1989. He returned to Mesirov in 1996 as counsel to the firm and joined Schnader when the firms merged in 2000.

During his career as a litigator and as a counselor to businesses and healthcare providers, Cramer served as Chancellor of the Philadelphia Bar Association, President of the Philadelphia Bar Foundation, and Chairman of the City Council Task Force on Health.
