Pretty as a picture

A new coffee table book featuring more than 200 stirring photographs of Penn, published by the University, has hit the shelves of the Penn Bookstore. Titled “People, Places, Passions, Pursuits, A Penn Portrait,” the book includes photos of venerable campus icons such as College Hall and The Palestra, as well as new landmarks such as Penn Park and Shoemaker Green.

It also captures the traditional events in the life of Penn students, the lively arts and culture scene on campus, and the rich veins of teaching, learning, and research that make Penn unique. The last time the University published a photo book was in 1999.

“What is really interesting is that we didn’t take the usual track and hire one photographer to shoot all the photos,” explains Ilene Wilder, director of marketing at the Business Services Division who shepherded the book from concept to completion. “We used a variety of photographers and included a number of images taken by Penn staff and students. The book is not only of Penn, but by Penn.”
