Photo project highlights ‘A Day in the Life of Penn’

A typical day at Penn is lively, with many stories to tell about the interesting personalities that populate the University and the engaging activities on campus.

On Tuesday, Oct. 29, “A Day in the Life of Penn,” a University-wide photography project, will give everyone in the Penn community a chance to share their own personal slice of University life with the general public.

Led by the Office of University Communications, the project illustrates the vibrancy and variety of Penn activities through the eyes of students, faculty, and staff. From 12 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., members of the University community are invited to take pictures of any aspect of life at Penn—both on campus and around the globe.

Among the images submitted in previous “A Day in the Life” projects include students studying in Fisher Fine Arts Library, a technician preparing a proton therapy machine, study abroad students in Denmark, and a mid-afternoon basketball game at the Pottruck Center.

“Each image reveals a particular story from various perspectives,” says lecturer Jamie Diamond, who teaches a photography class in PennDesign.

Some of Diamond’s students will be participating in the project by submitting photos for extra credit.

In last year’s “A Day in the Life of Penn,” more than 1,000 photos were submitted by more than 100 students, faculty, and staff members. Photos came from as far away as South Africa.

Photos for this year’s “A Day in the Life of Penn” must be uploaded to Flickr by noon on Friday, Nov. 1. Photos can also be submitted via Instagram, Tumblr, and Twitter by using the hashtag #PennDayinLife. The photos will be shared throughout the day on Penn’s social media platforms.

The final online slideshow of photographs will be featured on the University’s Flickr page, and also available for viewing on Penn-related websites.
