For many students, the arts are a vibrant and integral part of their Penn experience, through outlets such as singing, dancing, playing an instrument, performing in plays, or doing stand-up. This weekend, a parade of students will share their artistic talents with the greater University community, and the general public at large.

As part of Family Weekend, 10 Penn performance groups, including Mask and Wig, the Simply Chaos stand-up comedy group, and the Pan-Asian Dance Troupe, will be showcased during Student Performing Arts Night on Saturday, Oct. 25. The show, held at 8 p.m. at Irvine Auditorium, will give the audience a taste of the variety of the different types of Penn student performers. Tickets are $10 at the door or on the Annenberg Center website.

“Getting to perform in one of these performing arts nights is really awesome because you get to show [your work] to so many more people, and establish connections with other people you would otherwise not have gotten the chance to meet,” says Charlie McClelland, president of the Penn Glee Club and chair of Singers, Musicians, and Comedians on the student-run Performing Arts Council.

Several student groups are offering performances at venues across campus from Thursday, Oct. 23, through Saturday, Oct. 25 to show off their talents during Family Weekend.

Running all three nights is the sketch performance “Prime Time,” a joint production by the Penn Glee Club and Penn Dance. The show will be held at 8 p.m. at the Iron Gate Theatre at 37th and Chestnut streets. Tickets are $12 at the door or online at the Platt Student Performing Arts House website. The groups will perform some scenes together as well as individual song and dance numbers.

Bloomers, Penn’s only all-female musical and sketch comedy troupe, will perform “Saving Bloomerica: Starbucks and Stripes” at 8 p.m. on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday in the Class of ‘49 Auditorium in Houston Hall. Tickets are $10 at the door.

PenNaatak, a Penn theater troupe dedicated to exploring issues pertaining to the South Asian diaspora through performance, will perform at 6:30 p.m. at the Harold Prince Theatre in the Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts on Friday, Oct. 24, and Saturday, Oct. 25. Tickets are $10 at the door.

All performances are open to Penn students, faculty, and staff, their families, and the general public.
