Take advantage of campus sales for holiday gifts

For those in need of holiday gifts for friends and family, there are plenty of places on campus to get into the swing of the season.

On Thursday, Dec. 10, and Friday, Dec. 11, the Penn Bookstore, 3601 Walnut St., is holding its Annual Winter Sale-a-bration. Save 20 percent on items around the store, including Penn-branded merchandise (which even features an “ugly” holiday sweater and socks), books, games, and journals. There will be complimentary gift-wrapping during the sale and people can pose for a free professional holiday photo from to 2 to 6 p.m. Shoppers can also recharge with free hot chocolate and cookies from 4 to 6 p.m.

If individuals can’t make it for the Sale-a-bration, check out the Bookstore’s online offerings, which include Penn-branded merchandise and a selection of gifts under $25.

On Dec. 10 and 11, Computer Connection, located on the second floor of the Bookstore, will be holding raffles, refreshments, and giveaways from 4 to 6:30 p.m. They will also have a one-day Apple event on Dec. 10, where patrons can save $100 on any Mac computer or $25 on any iPad, and receive a $25 gift card with the purchase of any Mac or iPad model.

On Dec. 11, Computer Connection will hold events for Dell and Lenovo, as well as Microsoft Surface. Shoppers can save $100 off any Dell or Lenovo laptop and get a $25 store gift card; they can save $25 off any Microsoft Surface Pro or Microsoft Book and receive a $25 Computer Connection gift card.

Those unable to stop by the store in person can pre-order to receive the limited-time discounts and pick up the items at a later date. Anyone who purchases a computer or iPad through Dec. 31 will receive a $25 gift card to Computer Connection.

From Tuesday, Dec. 15, through Sunday, Dec. 20, the Penn Museum’s newly renovated gift shop, located inside the Museum at 3260 South St., is offering all PennCard and Penn Medicine cardholders a 25 percent discount on purchases. Patrons need to show a valid Penn ID for the discount.

The shop boasts a wide range of gifts from around the world, many via fair trade partnerships. Items speak to the myriad cultures in the Museum’s galleries, including international clothing, accessories, jewelry, pottery, statuary, crafts, books, and toys.

In conjunction with the Museum’s upcoming special exhibition, “The Golden Age of King Midas,” which features ancient treasures from Turkey, the shop has a selection of colorful Turkish pottery, mini-Oriental rugs designed as elegant mouse pads and coasters, cards featuring reproductions of Piet DeJong watercolors from the Museum’s Gordion excavations, and candle holders with whirling dervishes.

For those with an interest in nursing and medicine, the Barbara Bates Center for the Study of the History of Nursing is hosting their 5th Annual Holiday Book Sale through Friday, Dec. 18. The sale features new and vintage books on nursing and medicine, as well as image prints and other gifts for as little as $1. The sale is held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Center, located at 418 Curie Blvd., Claire Fagin Hall, Floor 2U.

Finally, students, faculty, and staff can send e-greetings to friends, family, and colleagues through Penn’s free eCard Program. There are more than 20 new greeting cards available, including two new animated holiday cards.
