What’s the best part of your job?
“The best part of my job and why I love it is working with people. I’ve always wanted to work with people. I’m a people person.”

What are your main responsibilities in this position?
“I lead the development, implementation, and administration of staff and labor relations programs at Penn. It involves programs such as performance management, which helps supervisors communicate clear expectations to staff and give them regular feedback about their performance and professional development. In addition, our Workplace Issue Resolution programs help staff and supervisors to resolve workplace concerns. It’s all about maintaining the positive work environment at Penn.”

How long have you worked at Penn?
“I’ve worked at Penn for 40 years. I started out working probably a week after graduation [from Penn] in student services under what is now known as Vice Provost for University Life.”

What’s kept you at Penn all these years?
“First of all it’s the people. I think Penn is just very rich in the community that we have. Second is the opportunity. I’ve had three different careers, all at Penn, starting with students and then Affirmative Actionand now Human Resources—without leaving the location. So I’ve had the opportunity to grow career-wise, personally, and skill-wise. The third thing is the environment. I’ve had friends that have done HR and worked in other places, but I think that Penn, in particular, and higher ed are just fascinating environments to work in.”
